OUR PROCESS

How Our Hurricane Retrofit Process Works on Oahu.

Step 1 — Schedule your free hurricane home assessment.
Call us or fill out the form online. We'll get back to you within one business day to schedule a visit. We serve all of Oahu — Honolulu, Kailua, Hawaii Kai, Pearl City, Mililani, Aiea, Kaneohe, Ewa Beach, Kapolei, Manoa, Waipahu, Waianae, the North Shore, and everywhere in between.

Hawaii Hurricane Ready specialist assessing your home

Step 2 — We assess your home.
An HHR hurricane specialist visits for about 15–20 minutes — walks the exterior, checks the attic where accessible, reviews how the home is built (single-wall, double-wall, post-and-pier, slab), and identifies what hurricane connectors are already in place and which ones are missing. We explain what we find in plain language. No charge, no pressure, no sales pitch.

Step 3 — You receive a written proposal from our licensed contractor. Within a few days of the assessment, a licensed contractor prepares a written hurricane retrofit proposal — scope of work, Simpson Strong-Tie connector types and quantities, timeline, and price — based on what the assessment identified. Typical payment terms are 50% deposit at signing and 50% upon completion.

Step 4 — Our licensed contractor installs your hurricane clips. Most Oahu single-family hurricane retrofits take one to two days. Our contractor's licensed crews handle everything: installation of all engineered connectors, any minor structural repairs the assessment identified (such as reinforcing or sistering a rafter), and full cleanup. You typically don't need to move out, and there's no visible change to your home's appearance.

Step 5 — You receive your insurance documentation package. When the work is complete, you get a documentation package suitable for your hurricane insurance carrier: scope of work performed, connector types and locations installed, photographs of the completed installation, and the licensed contractor's certification. Forward it to your insurer to apply for your wind mitigation premium discount, usually applied at your next renewal.

How HHR and the Licensed Contractor work together
HHR is the hurricane education, assessment, and advisory side — we know Hawaii homes, hurricane risk, and what each home actually needs. We then match you up with the best vetted and trained by us licensed Hawaii contractor in our network to do the actual installation in accordance with the proper specifications. The licensed contractor performs the installation, contracts with you directly, and warrants the workmanship.

You get specialist hurricane expertise and a fully licensed Hawaii contractor on the install side.
